Hailey Cavill-Jaspers is a DoGoodologist, social entrepreneur, corporate-cause partnerships pioneer, author, speaker, pitch coach and consultant to corporate Australia on CSR & Social Good. She has built 50 partnerships between corporates and non-profits investing over $40 million into the community sector through her company Cavill + Co, Hailey, frustrated with corporate greed and her superficial career in marketing, founded her business way back in 1995 before email was mainstream, CSR was unheard of, companies and brands were still marketing based on features and price and the only way to contribute to society was to enter politics or make a donation to charity. Then BOOM everything changed. Internet & social media gave the voice and power back to the people and now every human can access almost any information and can be an agent of change. Corporate Australia is being forced to change to respond to the new army of conscious consumers, social change activists and especially highly educated, well informed and deeplyskeptical Millennials. But they are not changing fast enough, our voices need to be stronger and louder. During her 23-year career Hailey has spoken in Australia, NZ, Holland and London and recently MC'd the Happiness Conference sharing the stage with His Holiness the Dalai Lama, leading neuroscientist Dr Fiona Kerr and musician James Morrison. She has featured on The Gruen, 730 report and in numerous publications including Choice, BRW, Mumbrella and Natural Health. Her Ted-style talk 'Better than Sex®' explores her neuroscience around why doing good is so good for us, revealing the chemical reaction that takes place in the brain when we practice altruism - otherwise known as 'the giving high'. Hailey walks the talk and in 2010 she moved from the city to live a more sustainable life and built a 7 1/2-star eco building with her husband Tyrone Jaspers, which featured on Grand Designs Australia in 2012, and on ABC Australia November 2018.
Fed up with Corporate Greed & Dominance? You have more power and influence than you think!
In Hailey's experience, everyday Australians, and especially well-informed activist Aussies that attend Newkind, have more power than they think.
"We are only going to resolve the numerous social problems we face - including climate change and environmental degradation - if corporate Australia start to step up and make radical changes. They will only do this when consumers start to vote at the cash registers. Clicktivism may name and shame them, but they will only change when it hurts them where it matters - the bottom line. Consumers world-wide and especially Australians, don’t trust institutions any more - churches and government have failed them and so have many companies. Whilst we might all philosophically despise consumerism, the fact is we cannot survive without certain products and services, unless we want to go and live in a cave somewhere and meditate (even then you are relying on someone to come and feed you!). If these products and services, and the corporations behind them, are not serving us in the way they run their companies; treat their staff, dispose of their waste, manufacture, energy waste, mis-treatment of animals, deceptive marketing, and so on, we have the power to change the way they do business. Recently several banks have revealed their true colours and yet often apathy or our increasing busyness and lack of time, means we don’t do anything, we continue to bank with someone despite despising them."
This lecture will not only identify the problem but provide resources to empower Newkind guests to step into their power and change the system forever. The market always has, and always will, have the power - we just need to remind ourselves of that.
